Apple has launched a new ad for the iPhone 5c called “Plastic Perfected,” focusing on the bright colors and the polycarbonate material of Apple’s new iPhones. The ad, which features catchy music and no dialogue, depicts liquid in various colors morphing into the iPhone 5c.

iPhone 5c Cases Begin Arriving to Pre-Order Customers
Apple’s iPhone 5c silicone cases have begun arriving to pre-order customers according to MacRumors tipsters. iLounge has also received its review unit.
The silicone rubber case is lined with microfiber on the inside, and includes Sleep/Wake and volume button protection. It’s quite light, with the empty space left by a 5 x 7 grid of 5/16″ holes helping to keep the weight down, while also oddly exposing only portions of the iPhone 5c’s rear labeling.
Though many of the iPhone 5c models are still available for delivery on Friday, iPhone 5c cases show a shipping lead time of 1-2 weeks on the U.S. Apple Online Store.
Microsoft Posts Anti-Apple Windows Phone Videos of Questionable Taste
Microsoft has posted seven new videos to its Windows Phone YouTube page, as part of a new series it calls ‘A fly on the wall in Cupertino’.
The ads purport to show iPhone 5c and 5s product pitch meetings with characters that bear a striking resemblance to Steve Jobs and Jony Ive, though the Jobs-esque character is called Tim several times.
If the executive in the videos is intended to resemble Steve Jobs, then they would appear to be in very poor taste. It’s not at all clear how the videos — which don’t ever explain how Windows Phone is better than iOS — help Microsoft achieve its stated goal of getting users to switch to its platform.

iPhone 5c Launch Day Supplies Generally Holding Up Well as Pre-Orders Begin
Six hours after it became available for pre-order in ten countries, most configurations of Apple’s new iPhone 5c remain available for launch day delivery on the Apple Online Storeand through mobile phone carriers.
Specifically, Apple’s website is showing that the phone has slipped to 1-2 weeks delivery for customers in Hong Kong, with the United States, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Singapore, and the United Kingdom still showing delivery fulfillment of September 20 except for outlying areas in some countries.
Major U.S. carriers AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile still have the phone available for pre-order, with all configurations still available. The only sign of weakness spotted so far is at Sprint, which notes that it may not be able to make delivery of all orders on September 20, with the yellow 32 GB model apparently under the tightest supply.
We’ll do our best to get it to you by 9/20; but because of high demand, some phones will ship in up to 2 weeks. iPhone 5c yellow 32GB will ship in up to 3 weeks. A tracking number will be sent when your phone ships.
Apple is offering the 16GB iPhone 5c on most carriers for $99 with a new two-year contract, while the 32GB version of the phone is selling for $199. The unlocked GSM version of the 16GB iPhone 5c is available for $549, while the 32GB version of the 5c retails for $649.
Following today’s start of pre-orders, the iPhone 5c will become available next Friday, September 20. Apple’s other flagship device, the iPhone 5s, will go on sale in store and online the same day and will not have a pre-order period.
Update: Some seven hours after the start of pre-orders, Apple’s U.S. online store has experienced its first launch-day sellout, with the unlocked yellow 16 GB model currently showing an estimated shipment date of September 25.

Burberry to Shoot Runway Show with Apple’s iPhone 5s
Apple and Burberry have announced a partnership that will see Burberry using Apple’s new iPhone 5s to capture its Spring/Summer 2014 runway show.
The show, which takes place on September 16, will showcase the improved camera capabilities of the iPhone 5s as Burberry uses it to shoot photos and videos of the event.
Apple® and Burberry today announced that iPhone® 5s is being used to capture and share beautiful photos and video before, during and after the Burberry runway show in London on Monday, September 16.
Using the all-new iSight® camera on iPhone 5s, Burberry is shooting high quality photos and video for runway and beauty looks, product details, and backstage moments. The collaboration is reimagining how Burberry engages consumers, paving the way for significant changes in how they capture and share their content.
Apple’s iPhone 5s camera offers several improvements over the iPhone 5 camera, including an increased sensor size and an f/2.2 aperture, both of which provide a 33 percent increase in light sensitivity for clearer shots, especially in low-light conditions. The phone also includes a “True Tone” dual-LED flash, built-in image stabilization, and new camera modes.
Burberry will begin showcasing photos and videos on its social media channels and itswebsite beginning today. The fashion house also plans to broadcast the event on Monday, September 16 at 2:30 PM GMT+1.
Apple’s iPhone 5s, which will not be available for pre-order, can be purchased from Apple and several third-party retailers on September 20.
iPhone 5s Battery Capacity by 10%, iPhone 5c by 5% Over iPhone 5
At its media event earlier this week, Apple noted that it had increased the battery capacity of the iPhone 5c relative to the iPhone 5, and the company’s tech specs show that users can expect longer for battery life on both the iPhone 5s and 5c for certain tasks.
In particular, both new iPhones offer up to 10 hours of talk time on 3G and the same 10 hours of LTE Internet use, up from 8 hours for both tasks on the iPhone 5. Standby time on the two new models has also increased to up to 250 hours compared to 225 hours on the iPhone 5.
Apple has not, however, revealed the exact battery capacity for the new iPhones, butAnandTech dug into the FCC documents and discovered that the iPhone 5c carries 5% higher battery capacity than the iPhone 5, while the iPhone 5s carries a 10% larger battery.
While I’m somewhat skeptical sometimes of the accuracy of battery capacities as reported in FCC disclosures (which I noted about the battery size for the Nexus 5), these numbers seem credible given what I’ve heard, the statement Apple made during the keynote about the 5C battery size going up, and what I’d expect with some board re-layout for the 5S.
The iPhone 5s number reported in the FCC documents is close but not identical to what was seen on a leaked December 2012 prototype. The battery in that device was listed as 5.92 Whr, while the FCC documents report a capacity of 5.96 Whr.
The documents report a capacity of 5.73 Whr for the iPhone 5c battery, which matches that seen in photos of the part posted by C Technology today.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 5c begin at 12:01 AM Pacific Time tomorrow morning, with availability of both the iPhone 5s and 5c set for Friday, September 20. Apple is not offering pre-orders for the iPhone 5s.
Apple Offers Additional Details on Touch ID, iPhone 5s Won’t Store Fingerprint Images
Amid fears about the security of Apple’s new Touch ID fingerprint sensor, an Apple spokesman has told The Wall Street Journal that the phone will only store the data used to recognize fingerprints, rather than actual images
Apple’s new iPhone 5S, which comes with a fingerprint scanner, won’t store actual images of users’ fingerprints on the device, a company spokesman confirmed Wednesday, a decision that could ease concerns from privacy hawks.
Rather, Apple’s new Touch ID system only stores “fingerprint data,” which remains encrypted within the iPhone’s processor, a company representative said Wednesday.
In practice, this means that even if someone cracked an iPhone’s encrypted chip, they likely wouldn’t be able to reverse engineer someone’s fingerprint.
Announced yesterday, Touch ID is a new security feature built into the home button of the iPhone 5s, designed to allow users to unlock their phones and authorize iTunes purchases with a finger scan. The sensor captures a high-resolution image of a fingerprint, analyzing it to provide accurate readings.
During its Touch ID presentation, Apple was quick to specify that all fingerprint information is encrypted and stored “in the Secure Enclave inside the A7 chip on the iPhone 5s” rather than being stored on Apple servers or backed up to iCloud. Developers are also not being provided with access to user fingerprints as a means of authentication.
Apple also gave the The Wall Street Journal a few other tips on the fingerprint sensor, noting that it occasionally malfunctions with moist fingers or fingers scarred by accidents and surgery. The company also explained that Touch ID must be supplemented with a passcode.
Apple customers who wish the use Touch ID also have to create a passcode as a backup. Only that passcode (not a finger) can unlock the phone if the phone is rebooted or hasn’t been unlocked for 48 hours. This feature is meant to block hackers from stalling for time as they try to find a way to circumvent the fingerprint scanner.
The iPhone 5s, with the new Touch ID functionality, is set to be released to consumers on September 20. Apple is not accepting pre-orders for the device.
